David Ortiz should win the MVP award. Check the stats, see what he’s doing compared to anyone else. Already over 100 RBIs, over 80 runs. Only hitting .289 but it’s cause of the ridiculous shifts he sees, which he’s starting to hit against too (witness opposite field walkoff single). I hear Derek Jeter’s name thrown out there too and his .350+ batting average is nice, but he’s only got around 60 RBI and 60 or so runs. Last I checked, scoring runs is pretty important, so is driving them in. Nice season by Jeter, but MVP? Please.
And don’t give me the bullshit that a DH shouldn’t win the MVP. It’s the Most Valuable Player award, not Most Valuable Player Who Plays The Field. If there was a position player with offensive numbers in the same ballpark as Ortiz, then I’d agree. But he’s head and shoulders above everyone else this year. It’s Papi’s time.

So nice that the Injuns obliged, and put those two runners on for the Big One, so that the Sawx could win by one. [...]
