Fighting between owners and players about salary caps required so teams can make money… An ugly lockout… Cancellation of a hockey season… Ugly.

Apparently no one learns…

Today, the New York Islanders signed Rick DiPietro to a record 15-year $67,500,000 deal which will take him to age 39 or 40… (born September 19, 1981) According to the Washington Post, this is the 2nd longest contract is US pro sports history, only topped by the 25-year deal with the Lakers and Magic Johnson.

This for a goalie who was 25th in save percentage, and 31st in average goals for the 2005 season. Now for a league that has put a $44 million dollar team salary cap to protect against ridiculous salaries that were preventing the teams from making money, this seems like an addict falling off the wagon.
