It seems that King George has gotten proper perspective as well.

From Tuesday’s New York Post:

After two days of soul searching, George Steinbrenner isn’t going to fire Joe Torre, The Post has learned.

According to several sources, The Boss has decided firing Torre isn’t the cure for the subterranean problems that plague his $200 million collection of dysfunctional underachievers who have been flushed out of the playoffs in the first round two consecutive seasons.

This is good news for the Yankees, but now we have to see what Dr. Stein diagnoses as the actual problem that plagued his team — and whether he’ll accept an answer that has no short-term solution (age, lack of pitching).
(One also wonders what the army of New York tabloid columnists who danced on Torre’s grave over the last couple of days will write now.)
