Hail and farewell

Season on the line.
Career wrapping up — this being the final regular season appearance.
Time to step up: Tiki Barber … 22 for 234 and three scores, including TD runs of 50 and 55 yards.
He’ll play again next week, but as a regular season fare-the-well, it’s a hell of a way to go.

Same old Jets?

Win and they’re in. It’s a surprisingly familiar situation for your New York Jets in the season’s final week.
As the New York Daily News’ Rich Cimini points out in his excellent Jets blog, there have been no fewer than seven such instances in the last 15 years. I can remember them all vividly.

Cold hard Cash

Assuming the much-discussed rape of the Diamondbacks — err, Randy Johnson trade — comes off, the Journal News’ Peter Abraham has a good point:
If the Yankees give out year-end bonuses, Brian Cashman should get whatever he can carry. He could come out of the winter having shed $25 million or so in payroll and adding [...]

Another bloviating athlete

Athlete arrogance never ceases to amaze.
Today’s entry is Mike Williams, Wide Receiver (or is that wide Receiver?) for the Detroit Lions.
It appears Williams’ waistline (he stands 6′4″ and tips the scales at 240 pounds), is not the only thing that’s swollen: His ego also needs to go on a diet. He told the Detroit Free [...]

Closing the Unit

The NY Post’s Joel Sherman reports that the Big Unit-to-Arizona deal is inching forward, and throws in some interesting RJ stats:
With all the negatives associated with Johnson as a Yankee, he won 17 games each season and totaled 430 2/3 innings. He continued to dominate lefties (.188 average), and his overall batting average/on-base percentage/slugging percentage [...]

America’s Team?

Whenever one individual, team, comapny, or group rises above their colleagues or competition in a given endeavor for a sustained period of time, they are called, “The New York Yankees” of that endeavor.  And with good reason, the Yankees have dominated Major League Baseball for almost a century, piling up dozens of championships.
So, who are the New York [...]

It’s A Nationals Christmas Carol

If the Nats were owned by Charles Dickens (heh heh heh… i said “DICKens” heeeheehee…), I think A Christmas Carol - The Movie might be a lot like what I’m watching right now.

Is that a Big Unit under the Christmas tree?

Merry Christmas, Yankees fans! You may soon be out from under the underwhelming Unit.
ESPN is reporting that the Diamondbacks and Padres are hot in pursuit of disappointing Yankees southpaw Randy Johnson.
In need of starting pitching — and a marquee name that will draw more fans — the Diamondbacks have offered a package of at least [...]

I Am D’Brickashaw Ferguson

So, I’m watching the Jets-Fins game on MNF.  The final game of Week 16.   Week 16, otherwise known as “Championship Week” in most fantasy football leagues.  I’m in the championship game in one league, and starting this game, I’m leading by roughly 10 points, 150-140 (and some odd decimals on each side).  My opponent, after [...]

Merry Christmas Everyone!

I hope everyone has a great holiday weekend and a fantastic 2007…

…which of course includes a Red Sox World Championship, another BCS bid for the Irish, a winning season for the Vikings, and a Big East Championship for the Friars!
Sorry…couldn’t resist.
Happy Holidays!
