Wow… This surprised ME, at least…

The Ravens have cut Jamal Lewis, according to the Post.  Sure, he kinda sucked last year, racking up 1,132 yards and nine touchdowns, with only a 3.6 YPC average.  He would’ve cost the Dirty Birds a $5M roster bonus, and an almost $12M cap hit, more than 10% of the cap.  So, maybe not shocking, [...]

Trans Fats at RFK?

According to an e-mail today from the Harrisburg Senators (Washington Nationals Affiliate), “Effective opening day, April 12th, Commerce Bank Park on City Island will make the switch to zero-trans fat oil products used in preparation of some of the more popular concession menu items.”
“All french fries and chicken tenders will be cooked in a unique [...]

MASN & MASN 2

The Mid-Atlantic Sports Network has finally announced their 2nd channel so they can air both Nationals and Orioles games.  If you want to see what channel MASN & MASN2 are on for your provider, here is a link.

Genius … and probably priceless too

Was that W and the Mick at the Yankees game last year?
Err, not quite. But they will be immortalized with Derek the J thanks to an anonymous employee of the Topps trading card company.
Per the NY Daily News, “It’s hard to Topps this one.” Jeter’s card this year has a waving George W. Bush in [...]

Do you mind if we dance with your dates?

After tonight’s performance, Georgetown fans must be crying “What Bricks!” after watching their #10 Hoyas get beaten up by Syracuse 72-58 at the Dome. It was a statement game for the Orange, who showcased their 4th rated scoring defense by limiting John Thompson III’s high flying Hoyas to only 29% shooting for the game, [...]

Now running for the NY Giants…

Willis McGahee? Thomas Jones? Michael Turner? Brandon Jacobs has to be bumming.

Combo deal?

I’ve long suspected that the scouting combine distorted the draft by inflating and deflating players through measurables when they really can’t, you know, play. This ESPN piece just confirms it.

Long tosses

I’m not quite sure what to make of this — I guess if nothing else it displays different organizational approaches to pitchers in spring training between the Yankees and Red Sox.

RIP Dennis Johnson

This board is usually pretty lilght on the NBA, with good reason, but today’s news of the sudden passing of 52 year old Dennis Johnson reminds me of the Golden Age of the NBA:  the 1980s.
Larry Bird once called DJ, “The greatest player he’d ever played with.”
High praise considering Bird played with Kevin McHale, Robert [...]

Of gay and other athletes

I don’t care about pro athletes’ personal lives.
I don’t care if DJ and A-Rod no longer have sleepovers or paint each others toe nails or whatever. (Dear god I don’t care about that story.)
I don’t care that John Amaechi is gay.
And while I guess I care that Tim Hardaway is a demented bigot, it’s because [...]
