Although I don’t know the alma mater/favorite college of all of our authors, through the first weekend of the tournament, here is how some of our teams have fared:
Marquette (Rob Klank) - upset in the first round
Duke (Borg) - upset in the first round
Arizona (me) - upset in the first round
Notre Dame (Mike Friess) - upset in the first round
Boston College (Bob Vanasse) - lost in the second round
All of the above is in addition to Syracuse (Scott Smith) and Providence (Mike Friess) not even making the cut.
I am not going to include UCLA (Randy Brown) because he has never actually written a post in his own words, but Georgetown (Rob Pegoraro) deserves recognition for surviving the SIMP curse and punching their ticket for the Sweet 16.

While I appreciate the shout-out, once again, I am NOT a Notre Dame basketball fan.
I went to Providence and the University of Connecticut School of Law, so I root for PC and UConn, neither of whom made the tournament. It is hard enough rooting for TWO teams in the same conference; I’m not about to start rooting for a third.
I root for Notre Dame in FOOTBALL because PC and, until recently UConn, does not have a team, I’m Catholic, Notre Dame is the greatest college football program in history, and they appear to run a great and honest program.
I do generally like to see ND hoops do well only for conference achievement, but I am not an ND basketball fan . . .
Non sequitur but just saying, “in my pants” is taking over the blogosphere….

In the event you decide to recognize that the Jesuits do have at least a tenuous link to Roman Catholicism, you would be welcome to switch your allegiance to the Jesuit school with the football team that is, in fact, much much closer to your two alma maters and hometown than that cornfield in Indiana with the dome and the outdoor candle-lighting. (I realize this is evidence of the Jesuit-educated being less traditionally Catholic than others, but am I the only one who thinks the grotto smacks of “graven images”?)
Hey E-Rod, thanks for the post. I would not have expected the Eagles to do better than the list of teams up there who hold the other SIMPers allegiance (Mike’s denial of Notre Dame Basketball before the cock crows three times non-withstanding). I did go to grad school at Gtown but I think claiming to be a Hoya at this point would be disingenuous. Nonetheless, I am rooting for the blue and grey now.
As a Syracuse alum, I know I am supposed to hate the Hoyas, but right now I find myself pulling for them as well.
Yeah, I’ll start rooting for Fredo’s Superfans right after I start voting Democratic and cheering for the Yankees . . .
My alma mater, University of Delaware, men’s team had a miserable season. Between injuries, embarassing academic problems and some issues with transfers, they finished the season with 7 player (one of of that I don’t believe even played.) 5-26 (3-15 conference) was the ugliest season I can recall. I had picked Notre Dame (who also failed me), because our last good season was the last one lead by Mike Brey before he left for ND.
On the bright side, the Blue Hen ladies got their 2nd ever NCAA tournament bid and the first at-large bid in their history. As a #12 seed, they played a respectable game against Michigan State in Lansing Sunday night.
Mike - I find it very entertaining you say you like to see ND “do well only for conference achievement.” When did “conference achievement” and “Notre Dame” get used in the same sentence?
David with the zinga! Heehaw!
Despite all the kumbaya conference loyalty hand-holding going on, I’ll go lay down in beltway traffic before I start pulling for the team clad in bitch-ass blue which resides on the other end of Route 15-501 from Duke’s campus. GO Sallukis and Go Trojans! (my cousin went to USC and my uncle teaches at SIU med school)
David, last time I checked, Notre Dame is in the Big East for every sport but football. They count for our RPI, they qualify for and play in our conference tournament and would win our automatic bid if they won it. In addition, they are contractually obligated to play a certain number of BE football teams every year and in the rare occasions when they don’t qualify for the BCS, they take part in the Big East Bowl tie-ins.
I realize every other D-1 school is jealous of their football independence, but please, spare me the vitriol regarding ND’s partial membership in the Big East. Every single other conference in America would take them in a heartbeat under a similar situation, save PERHAPS the ACC who asked them to join as a full memeber.
Klank, it’s your old roomie….email me. Some of the old guys (Botti especially) think you have gone into the witness protection program
