To all Notre Dame fans:

The following appeared in the Springfield Massachusetts Republican: “If Matt Ryan doesn’t win the Heisman Trophy, the University of Massachusetts defense can take at least a little credit for it. The Boston College senior quarterback, if not a Heisman winner then assuredly a first-round pick in next year’s NFL draft, was blitzed, hit and nearly picked a couple of times by UMass in the Eagles’ 24-14 victory Saturday.” It appears that UMass (1-AA #2) is taking credit for giving BC (1-A #7) a bit of a challenge on Saturday. (UMass has 16 1-A transfers on their squad and their only losses in the past two years are to BC and Appalachian State in the 1-AA Championship.)
It is obvious that UMass and their uninformed fan base do not understand the Godfather Theory of College Football. Please explain the Notre Dame “Fredo Analogy” to the Republican, UMass, Bowling Green, and while you are at it, remind the Fighting Irish. Since we are undefeated and in the top ten, I want to make sure our upcoming opponents understand that according to the Notre Dame Godfather Great Chain of Being Theory of College Football, when a highly-ranked and undefeated team in the national spotlight is playing, it is the obligation of the lower-ranked team to accept their place, roll over, and get out of the way.
Thank you.
