A few years back, Duke beat Maryland by scoring 10 points in the final 55 seconds of regulation to force OT during a regular season men’s basketball game, in what’s been called the “Gone in 60 Seconds” or “Miracle Minute” game (with a minute to go, ESPN commentator Mike Patrick actually said “Duke will need a miracle”). Well, here’s a game that beats that – even for a Duke fan like myself – and it doesn’t involve the Blue Devils. In fact, it doesn’t even involve D-I basketball, which is why likely all of us missed this last year, including myself. Duke might have just beaten this team 105-44 in an exhibition massacre last week, but what Barton did in the D-II title game last year is truly amazing.
Barton’s Anthony Atkinson scored 10 points himself in the final 39 seconds to complete a highly unlikely comeback against undefeated Winona State to win the 2007 D-II championship, live on CBS. This must be one of the most amazing championship performances of all time, at any level:

I recall seeing highlights from the inbound steal, but that left out all of the excitement before it. Wow.
