Some say it is difficult to win at Providence because it is a small school, no football, small endowment, cold weather, lousy recruiting base, off-campus arena, etc.
While that may be true, I think THIS has a bit more to do with it.
7 Big East schools in the top-25!?! You’ve GOT to be kidding me. This will be the most talented Friar team since the 1997 Elite Eight squad, with the AP Coach of the Year at the helm, and it looks (in April) like 8th is the best we can hope for.
Ugh . . .

REEEEEEEEEALLY early. Apparently, Katz simply can’t take off in the off-season and has to put out SOMETHING, even if it’s just words taking up space.
Lots of guys still left to decide on the draft (Joe Alexander - gone; Thabeet - gone), which could cause a team’s stock to seriously plummet (also read: IMO, Cuse is VERY overrated at 18 w/o Green). And there are lots of other ?-marks around da ‘Least (Price’s ACL; Devendorf’s knee; L’ville with practically a whole new team), so, let’s not get TOO far ahead of ourselves with these rankings, shall we? :-p
Sports predictions about next season and upcoming events are a useless form on non-intellectual masturbation and a waste of mindshare. At least Monday morning quarterbacking is based on facts and events. Think about it. Economists, sports writers and political consulting are among the professions where you can gain great fame without ever being right. Tom Brady went in the 6th round. Notre Dame is almost always (well unless they have a season like last year) high in the preseason polls and look at how often they have been there at the end of the year. Bode Miller did great at the last Olympics after all those magazine covers, huh? How ’bout Tiger’s sure win in the Masters? The examples are endless.
Guys, I’m well aware that a prediction of what will happen 11 months from now if worthless. That wasn’t exactly my point.
The point was that the Big East seems to crest every 2-3 years as the best conference in America and based on who is coming back, who played well in this year’s tournament, etc, it looks like 08-09 could be another year where Big East hoops reigns supreme, making it tough for Keno in his first year, even with an absolutely loaded roster.
