Wille Randolph’s meeting Mets’ brass on Tuesday will probably be the end of Willie’s tenure as manager. The Mets need a manager like Larry Bowa who has more fire in his belly. Last September, I saw the Mets and Phillies play the Nationals on consecutive nights and the contrast was stark. The Mets were lethargic and the Phils enthusiastic in the middle of a hot pennent race, so it didn’t surprise me when the Mets finished out of the money.

While they’re up it, the Mets should clean house and get rid of Omar Minaya. The new Mets’ manager will be saddled with a bloated $140 million dollar payroll stocked with big money and long contract players like Pedro Martinez and Carlos Delgardo whom Minaya signed on the back nine of their careers. If Fred Wilpon wants to get the Mets on the right track, he’ll need to do a lot more than rearrange the deck chairs on the Titanic.
