Strong words from NBA All-Star and 2006 Finals MVP Dwayne Wade, describing the 2008 World Champion Boston Celtics.  The Celts won last night, once again proving that good defense beats good offense every single time.  Somewhere in heaven, Red is lighting up a cigar and cracking a broad grin.

Last night, the Boston Celtics humiliated their rival L.A. Lakers, winning Game 6 by 39 points.  Despite L.A. winning 2 games, the Celtics thoroughly dominated the series, arguably outplaying L.A. in every single game.  A few quick hitters:

-The Celtics set a record last night with 18 steals.

-The Celtics set a record for the biggest 1-season turnaround in NBA history.

-UConn’s Ray Allen set an NBA Finals record last night with 7 3-pointers.

-At one point in the 3rd quarter, the Celtics had more steals than the Lakers had Field Goals.

-Kobe Bryant was completely exposed in this series.  He simply could not get to the bucket consistently and after Boston made him a jump-shooter, he became a simply average player.  PLEASE STOP comparing him to Michael Jordan.

-39 points is the 3rd largest margin of victory in an NBA Finals game.

-In Game 4, the Celtics set a record coming back from 24 points to win in L.A.

-Of the 62 NBA titles, the Celtics now own 17, making them the most succesful and dominant franchise in team sport history.

-The Celtics are 9-2 against the Lakers in the Finals.

-The city of Boston will be holding their 6th World Championship parade THIS DECADE.

-Had it not been from Brandon Tyree and the New York Giant’s improbable Superbowl victory, the Pats, Sox, and Celts would currently hold all three major titles in teh same calander year.

-The Pats, Sox, and Celts each had the best regular season record in their respective sports.

-All three teams head into their next season (current for Sox) as favorites to win the title AGAIN as all three are STILL the best in their respective leagues.

The Globe’s Bob Ryan summed up the game, the season, and the post-season perfectly this morning:

“The Celtics started the season 8-0. They had such records as 20-2, 40-9, and, finally, 66-16. They never trailed in any playoff series. They won every playoff game they had to win. And they saved their absolute best for last, blowing away the Western Conference champion Lakers with a truly phenomenal display of all-around basketball that left no doubt just which was the best basketball team in the known universe.”
