As of 4:59pm, both the Boston Globe and ESPN report that Manny Ramirez was traded to the Dodgers in a three-way deal for Jason Bay. Dodgers get Manny, Sox get Bay, Pirates get Craig Hansen and Brandon Moss (from the Sox) and Andy LaRoche and Bryan Morris (from the Dodgers). The Sox [...]

Manny’s not moving . . .
Peter Gammons: “A source close to the three-way negotiations involving Manny Ramirez says the deal is close to dead. Florida has reportedly asked Boston for a cash outlay beyond the $7M to cover Ramirez’s contract, in addition to two prospects. That essentially would add up to the Red Sox trading Ramirez, $9M and two prospects [...]
Manny to the Marlins? May be a done deal…
According to Will Caroll of Baseball Prospectus, Manny may have played his last game for the Red Sox tonight:
Marlins get Manny Ramirez, one prospect (Red Sox), and cash (likely covering Ramirez’s remaining salary)
Pirates get Jeremy Hermida and three prospects (two Marlins, one Red Sox)
Red Sox get Jason Bay and John Grabow
John Grabow [...]
Yankees-Mariners talks over Washburn stall
ESPN’s trade blog is reporting that the Yankees-Mariners talks over Jarrod Washburn. The Ms want the Yanks to take the contract but also give up a solid prospect. Cashman should stick by his guns — the Yankees don’t necessarily need Washburn. They can replace Rasner or Ponson with Ian Kennedy or someone like Aceves.
Patriots add LaMont Jordan to backfield mix
Looks like the Raiders’ actions have resulted in the Patriots getting yet another potential steal. Jordan started out last year with a bang, but his back gave out yet again. This gives the Patriots a talented stable of three very productive, but somewhat brittle, running backs. I like the move.
Yankees trade analysis: Too soon to tell
The Yankees acquired Xavier Nady and Damaso Marte for four minor leaguers, including prize prospect Jose Tabata and pitcher Ross Ohlendorf.
The trade initially was said to include LHP Phil Coke and RHP George Kontos, but it has been rejiggered to include RHPs Dan McCutcheon and Jeff Karstens.
A good trade? Ask again in October and in [...]
For Yankees, major addition could come from minors
The Yankees big rotation addition could come from within. To wit, Ian Kennedy, who along with Phil Hughes was supposed to be a rotation next-gen mainstay this year but ended up flopping and then getting injured is healthy and pitching again, at AAA Scranton. And last night he came within an error of notching his [...]
Nats to DFA Chad Cordero
Gasoline? Check. Matches? Check. Wooden bridge symbolizing the Nationals’ relationship with once-elite, now injured closer Chad Cordero? Check.
Jim “Man of Tact” Bowden announced Wednesday that he’s going to designate Cordero for assignment (read: release) at season’s end. And while the Nats’ season functionally ended several weeks ago, it doesn’t technically end for another couple of [...]
Yankees trade buzz
Given the rumors that the Yankees might kick into Steinbrenner mode, I thought I would onpass at least two rumored possible deals for the stripers.
- LoHud Yanks blog has the Yankees continuing to poke around Jarrod Washburn as a back-end upgrade over Daryl the Ras. On the up-side, it would involve dumping Kei Igawa.
- The [...]
All that praise for the Yankees patience?

Steinbrenners ready to make a splash
The New York Daily News reported that the Yankees’ brain trust will meet Thursday in Tampa to discuss potential moves before the trade deadline. According to a Daily News source, the Steinbrenner brothers are “ready to do whatever they need to do at the [...]
