Phil Steele’s 2008 Predictions

2 July 2008 by Cruiser

As I told you last year, Phil Steele’s College Football Preview is the best preseason football magazine in America.  It also ranks as the most accurate magazine over the past 9 years.  Last year, it was not the most accurate partly because he ignored 17 5th-year seniors and a weak schedule and picked BC to finish last in their ACC division before they actually won the division and lost the ACC Conference Championship.  Just for shits and giggles, during a slow sports time, here are his predictions for 2008’s top 10 as well as his thoughts for all of the SIMP schools:

1.  Florida - 1st in SEC East, playing in BCS Title Game

2.  Ohio State-1st in Big Ten, playing in BCS Title Game

3.  Oklahoma-1st in Big XII South, playing in Fiesta Bowl

4.  USC-1st in Pac-10, playing in Rose Bowl

5.  Clemson-1st in ACC Atlantic, playing in Orange Bowl

6.  West Virginia-1st in Big East, playing in Sugar Bowl

7.  Missouri-1st in Big XII North, playing in Orange Bowl

8.  South Florida-2nd in Big East, playing in Fiesta Bowl

9.  Georgia-2nd in SEC East, playing in Sugar Bowl

10.  Penn State-2nd in Big Ten, playing in Rose Bowl

19.  Notre Dame-playing in Gator Bowl (Jacksonville)

39.  Arizona-5th in Pac-10, playing in Emerald Bowl (San Francisco)

Unranked:

UCLA-6th in Pac-10, playing in Poinsettia Bowl (San Diego)

Boston College-5th out of 6 in ACC Atlantic, playing in Humanitarian Bowl (Boise)

Syracuse-8th out of 8 in the Big East, no bowl

Duke-5th out of 6 in ACC Coastal, no bowl
