According to Will Caroll of Baseball Prospectus, Manny may have played his last game for the Red Sox tonight:
Marlins get Manny Ramirez, one prospect (Red Sox), and cash (likely covering Ramirez’s remaining salary)
Pirates get Jeremy Hermida and three prospects (two Marlins, one Red Sox)
Red Sox get Jason Bay and John Grabow
John Grabow is a very awful lefty reliever and Jason Bay is an inconsistent but talented outfielder who is having a pretty decent year. He’s also young and a better defender. But still - not the kind of deal I get excited about. This smacks of Theo having no choice and taking the best of what they can get. The Marlins and Pirates on the other hand make out like bandits. Manny has a club option left and if the team owner isn’t tight fisted he’s a major offensive threat in the NL East. This might just have given the Marlins the divison.

The Red Sox don’t deserve a player like me,” Ramirez said. “During my years here I’ve seen how they [the Red Sox] have mistreated other great players when they didn’t want them to try to turn the fans against them. The Red Sox did the same with guys like Nomar Garciaparra and Pedro Martinez, and now they do the same with me. Their goal is to paint me as the bad guy. I love Boston fans, but the Red Sox don’t deserve me. I’m not talking about money. Mental peace has no price and I don’t have peace here.”
Well, I guess that’s about it. Time to move him. I just wish we weren’t getting 70 cents on the dollar.
Based on this and the Teixeira trade, the Red Sox now look like the 2nd best team in the A.L. and M.L.B.
Ugh . . . there goes our dynasty.
Still, I finally think Manny needs to go. It’s not these comments, because, at least in part, he’s right. It’s not the comments . . . it’s the bullshit. The not running out grounders . . . the missed pop-ups . . . his skipping big games . . . the constant distraction.
Also, he is what, 36? Theo has never been wrong about dumping older stars-NEVER (Nomar, Pedro, Damon) so maybe he knows something we don’t.
Once again, in Theo I trust.
