Manny IS Moving.

Posted by Binette on July 31, 2008 at 5:10 pm.

As of 4:59pm, both the Boston Globe and ESPN report that Manny Ramirez was traded to the Dodgers in a three-way deal for Jason Bay. Dodgers get Manny, Sox get Bay, Pirates get Craig Hansen and Brandon Moss (from the Sox) and Andy LaRoche and Bryan Morris (from the Dodgers). The Sox are also apparently picking up the $7 million remaining on his contract.

Going… going…………… gone!

  • Wow. Was it give-away-day at Fenway?? Theo must REALLY have had enough of “Manny Being Manny.” I’m sure his childish act will play well on the left coast, with all the other primadonnas. ;-) Thank goodness he’s not coming to the NL East.

  • That’s just about the only good thing I can say about this move. There’s no other hitter like Manny in the game today, so the Red Sox did not get “better” today. They just finally couldn’t take his act any more.

Wow, a title-less fall in the Bean perhaps?

    That sucks . . .

I actually like Bay, but there is no hitter in baseball (not Pujols, not A-Job, nobody) who can replace Manny’s presence in the Boston lineup.

To truly gauge the impact of this trade, watch Papi’s numbers, not Bay’s . . .

  • Manny must’ve been an even bigger clubhouse/organizational cancer than even the media realized for the Sox to make this deal. Everything Scott & Cruiser say is right: there’s just no way you trade Manny and even hope to break even.

Whomever was co-hosting on ESPN Radio this morning with Mike Greenberg (Olney? Stark? it was one of ESPN’s baseball guys) said that we’re gonna see a FLOOD of comments out of Boston that folks - Sox brass, Manny’s teammates, etc. - have been bottling up for years, essentially, about how awful it was having Manny in their locker room. Wow.

Boston doesn’t deserve you, Manny?? Sounds to me like you’re barely enough of a /human/ to be allowed to play Major League Baseball, let alone be privileged enough to play for the Sox! It’s amazing how long a leash one gets when they’re that talented. Hmph.
