I happened to check out the FedEx Cup standings for humor today.
With two weeks left in the “regular season” (whatever that means in golf), Tiger Woods is still leading the FedEx Cup points totals. This is after playing in only 6 events, and being out due to season ending surgery since June 16 after winning the US Open.
#1 might not last through the regular season, but he is likely to stay in the top five:
Top 5 (name, events played, points):
- Tiger Woods 6 22,695
- Kenny Perry 21 20,878
- Phil Mickelson 16 17,354
- Stewart Cink 17 15,126
- Anthony Kim 17 15,115

Kenny Perry with a first, second or third finish at the PGA Championship could finally overtake Tiger at #1 (after playing in 16 more events than Tiger…)
That is an insane level of Tiger dominance.

WTF is the FedEx Cup?
Haven’t you seen the ads?
Its golf’s (somewhat lame) attempt to have a post-season. It is meant to keep the top players playing the entire season, rather than cutting out shortly after the last major thereby making the TV revenue higher. (because no one really cared about the tournaments where the people on the bubble fought to keep their tour card…)
Points are accrued by finishing in the top 85 places in each tour event. The top 144 point scorers from the “regular season” go into a 4 tournament “playoff” where the field is reduced from 144-120-70-30. The person with most points at the end wins the Cup and a $10,000,000 retirement fund.
Seriously, Robert - there’s more than just NFL Football and MLB’s American League East in the US sporting world, believe it or not….
Yes, Robert, The Borg is right. There is also NCAA Men’s Basketball and Football. I think that’s it, though.
I saw the graphic for the FedEx Points leaders at the end of CBS’ telecast yesterday (August 17), and I nearly fell off my chair when I saw that Tiger Woods was still leading the points list - 2 months after not playing. At first I thought it was some kind of flashback leaderboard or something, but it was the up-to-date real deal. Amazing.
Where can I find the point standings at the end of the regular season before the playoffs began?
