Bosox in on Burnett?

Oh please please please please.

Would someone please explain the fascination with AJ Burnett? Do Brian Cashman and Theo Epstein not realize that “Burnett” is Canadian for “Pavano”?

My favorite part of these stories is where writers say that a fifth year on a Burnett contract might be risky because of his injury history … as if the second, third and fourth years on the contract would be safe.

My take: The Sox are just trying to drive up the Yankees’ price while they sign the more dependable Derek Lowe.

  • “…But Burnett, who turns 32 in January, will certainly receive serious attention from Boston, which has already engaged in discussions with the pitcher’s agent, Darek Braunecker, according to the source.”

    Of course, it’s all speculation and the rumor that the Sox are involved would help Burnett’s agent in driving up the cost to the Yankees (oldest trick in the books). So the Sox are unlikely to deny that they are interested, even if they are not.

    I would be very surprised to find out that the Sox have signed Burnett. Lowe, yes. Sabathia or Burnett? Shocked.

  • ech!

    Burnett = Pavano OR Clement.

    Please God no.

    Sox: new catcher, Teixiera, Bullpen.

    Start making mold for new championship ring.
