I got tickets to the Frozen Four, the nickname for the NCAA Division I Men’s Ice Hockey Championship, which was played this past Thursday and Saturday at the Verizon Center is Washington, DC.
Thursday night was Miami of Ohio over Bemidji State 4-1 and Boston University over Vermont 5-4. After watching both games, I frankly didn’t think that Miami stood a a chance against BU. The BU v Vermont game looked so much faster and more physical.
However, Miami definitely proved my comments wrong, delivering a wonderful hockey game. The even lead the game 3-1 with 4:08 to play in the 3rd period. This forced BU to pull their goalie with 3:32 to play, down by 2! What ensued was the most exciting ice hockey I’ve ever witnessed. Boston University managed to not only avoid being scored on with the goalie pulled, but actually scored twice to tie the game with 17 seconds to play with both goals coming in the final minute. The game went to overtime, where BU won with a sudden death goal on a deflected slap shot. I’m not a fan of either school, so I didn’t really care about the outcome. This game was so good, that even without concern about who won, I was on the edge of my seat. Amazing stuff. Check out the ESPN game highlights below, and if you can find a site that has the last minute of regulation online, definitely watch it!

Wild! GREAT set of games to be a part of. Probably the “best” college hockey game in history. Very cool. [and nice video embed, to boot! well done!]
