Kenny Nims ties the game with four seconds remaining in the fourth quarter.

They may not have lead for a single moment in regulation during Monday’s NCAA Men’s Lacrosse title game, but the Syracuse Orange found a way to snatch victory from the upstart Cornell Red Raiders yesterday in overtime by the score of 10-9.  In doing so, the Orange set the mark for most titles by a school in NCAA men’s Division I lacrosse history .

Syracuse trailed by 3 with about 4 minutes to go in the final quarter, but scratched and clawed it’s way back to down 9-8.  With about 10 seconds to go, Matt Abbott took a pass and looked to the front of the goal where Kenny Nims was waiting.  Abbot fired the pass in, Nims caught it and as he was getting manhandled to the ground, got off an underhand shot only Dan Quisenberry could’ve perfected that eluded the Cornell keeper and found the back of the Red Raiders net with four seconds remaining in regulation.

It didn’t take long for the rejuvenated Orange to strike in OT – after getting a turnover in their zone, Syracuse carried out and after a first shot was deflected out of bounds, Abbott again set up the winning goal in front of the goal mouth, talied by Cody Jamieson.  The win gives Syracuse coach John Desko his 2nd title, and a repeat back-to-back run to cement his role as the next great Syracuse LAX coach.  Congratulations to the Orange!
