An article published in Forbes today makes the argument that Doug Flutie’s years at Boston College ushered in “in a whole new era of growth for [college football], helping to drive the marriage of a newfound East Coast audience, drawn to the college game by an unlikely star, to a burgeoning television presence led by upstart ESPN.”
And current BC student-athlete Mark Herzlich has been selected for the Disney Spirit Award given annually by Disney Sports to college football’s most inspirational figure. Mark recently overcame a rare form of bone cancer and helped inspire more than $120,000 in donations for cancer-related causes. In addition to BC, funds were raised in Mark’s name at Clemson, Florida State, NC State, Notre Dame, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, Virginia, North Carolina and the Orange Bowl.
