I am the odd ball of the snakesinmypants contributors in the fact that I am neither a writer nor a sports historian. I can’t tell you who played in the 1953 World Series (well, without a Google search first.) However, with the addition of baseball to Washington, DC, I have become a huge Washington Nationals fan. I also greatly enjoy golf (playing and watching), football (watching - particularly college.), and watching college basketball. Hopefully my comments and questions will bring you another perspective on sports.

So much for family friendly…

After the family friendly conversation, I tried to resist posting this, but just couldn’t.
Apparently in Spain, they have “evidence” that football (soccer) is more popular than sex.  Attendance to the three-day International Erotic Film Festival of Barcelona (FICEB) plummeted from previous years, and organizers are blaming Spain’s success in the European Cup.
Spain’s success at Euro [...]

Zack Hample Needs a Life

3,494 and counting: Ballhawk is in league all of his own
Amazingly, he claims to have gotten “28 baseballs at a Washington Nationals game”, including “17 in batting practice.”  I’m just glad to know our team can hit that many home runs in batting practice

Speaking of Shortstop Trades…

Speaking of shortstop trades, could we possibly be this fortunate?
Orioles Interested in Felipe Lopez (mlbtraderumors.com)

O’s have interest in deal for infielder Lopez (Fox Sports)

I agree with Rosenthal’s stament that the O’s could trade a “marginal minor-league prospect”.  I’d personally settle for a dozen or so bats and balls if they take over the entire [...]

Pacman Praying for Imus

On the opposite sites of the intelligence and situational awareness continuum:
Don Imus puts his foot in his mouth again with inappropriate race comments.  You can judge this from Imus being a racist to his provided explination.  Regardless of what you believe, he handled it poorly.
On the opposite side of the continuum, “Pacman” Adam Bernard Jones [...]

Arroyo Makes Nats Pitching Look Good

According to ESPN, Bronson Arroyo became the first starting pitcher since 1900 to pitch one inning or less and allow 10 runs and 11 hits.  Amazingly he only gave up one walk in the 15 batters he faced.  However, he gave up 3 home runs and added a wild pitch too.  On a positive note, [...]

Patience at the plate - virtue or not?

The Washington Post wrote an article this morning on what I thought was one of my favorite statistical topics - Pitches per Plate Appearance.  This was a post I actually meant to write on Friday, but forgot until the article was a good reminder.
“Sister” Christian (as we like to call him) Guzman is leading major [...]

John Lannan = No Offense (for either team…)

Today, in what has to seem like deja vu, John Lannan pitches a solid quality start and the offense does nothing to help him.
Take a look at the stats below and see how bad this is for Lannan.   Lannan and Redding are both having strong seasons on the mound, and Lannan is clearly leading [...]

“Nationals to disable Lo Duca, Estrada”

I’m six weeks late in posting this, but I still laugh every time I read the headline of this article.  This sounds more like something you’d expect from the Sopranos, not the Lerners.  Oh, and Lo Duca, Estrada, and many other Nats have proven they are quite capable of disabling themselves on their own.

I also [...]

Huge Kudos to Jim Estes

If you don’t know Jim Estes, he is former PGA tour card holder who played college golf locally (to DC) at University of Maryland.  I didn’t realize he was teaching golf at the Olney Golf Park, but this is even cooler.  This is definitely the feel story of the week for me.
Apparently this just hit [...]

What happens when you get swept by the Nats

Bye Bye Bavasi
Well, and signing Brad “strikeout” Wilkerson to a $3M contract and then releasing him a few weeks into the season doesn’t help.
