Lannan-Utley Circle of Pain

2 September 2008 by David

Likely nothing to this, but still interesting.
On July 26th, 2007, John Lannan hit Chase Utley in the hand with a pitch, breaking his hand.  Jesus Flores was the catcher and had the go-ahead three-run homer to win the game.
Tonight, with John Lannan pitching, Chase Utley sent Jesus Flores out on a stretcher sliding into home.

A Sister Cycle

28 August 2008 by David

Wow, who’d have thought.  Sister Cristian Guzman just hit for the cycle against the Dodgers.
That should pretty much be the icing on the cake for this series sweep, and also for the Dodgers playoff hopes (after 7 consecutive losses including being swept by the worst team in baseball…)

It’s over

28 August 2008 by Cruiser

The Yankees are finally dead.  After 14 years, the Yankee playoff run is finally over.

Hmmm . . . Mark Teixeira and CC Sabathia on line 2, Mr. Cashman.

Hurray for Instant Replay!

Baseball gets with the times: Limited instant replay debuts Thursday
And the system looks like it makes sense too.

Live From Coors Field

13 August 2008 by The Borg

It’s 6:50pm Mountain Time, and I’m sitting 21 rows behind the visiting AZ Dbacks dugout. Let’s PLAY BALL!
OK, so some notes and observations from Coors Field in Denver, Colorado:

There are two lefties starting tonight… had I bothered to research this ahead of time, I probably would NOT have chosen to sit behind the THIRD BASE […]

The Bay State of the Nation

2 August 2008 by Brad Bannon

Manny is gone and most of Red Sox Nation is relieved. Jayson Bay is the new hero after driving in three runs and scoring three and leading the Sox to wins in his first two games. Bay should enjoy his honeymoon while it lasts because it will end when he goes 0 for 4 a […]

You Know Your Team Sux When…

1 August 2008 by The Borg

…it’s used as the basis of a practical joke, which gets another player SO mad that he’s “ready to kill someone” rather than be traded there. Doh!!

Manny’s not moving . . .

31 July 2008 by Cruiser

Peter Gammons:  “A source close to the three-way negotiations involving Manny Ramirez says the deal is close to dead. Florida has reportedly asked Boston for a cash outlay beyond the $7M to cover Ramirez’s contract, in addition to two prospects. That essentially would add up to the Red Sox trading Ramirez, $9M and two prospects […]

Yankees-Mariners talks over Washburn stall

27 July 2008 by Robert Schlesinger

ESPN’s trade blog is reporting that the Yankees-Mariners talks over Jarrod Washburn. The Ms want the Yanks to take the contract but also give up a solid prospect. Cashman should stick by his guns — the Yankees don’t necessarily need Washburn. They can replace Rasner or Ponson with Ian Kennedy or someone like Aceves.

Yankees trade analysis: Too soon to tell

26 July 2008 by Robert Schlesinger

The Yankees acquired Xavier Nady and Damaso Marte for four minor leaguers, including prize prospect Jose Tabata and pitcher Ross Ohlendorf.
The trade initially was said to include LHP Phil Coke and RHP George Kontos, but it has been rejiggered to include RHPs Dan McCutcheon and Jeff Karstens.
A good trade? Ask again in October and in […]
