SU’s Donte Green to enter the NBA draft

Author: Scott Smith - Categories: NCAA Basketball

509211.jpg“After discussing my future plans with my family and Coach Boeheim, I’ve decided to declare for the NBA draft,” Greene said in the statement.

Greene averaged 17.7 points per game in his freshman season, the second most for a first-year player in Syracuse history, behind only Carmelo Anthony’s 22.2 in 2002-03. Greene is the first player to declare for the NBA early since Anthony did in 2003.

*sigh*.

All’s well that ends well at Providence?

It appears my first choice, Travis Ford, could be the lead candidate at Providence.

This hinges in part on whether Billy Gillespie ends up leaving Ford’s alma mater of Kentucky for the vacant Oklahoma State job.

Ford’s hiring, while most likely another “stepping stone” situation like Pitino, Barnes, or Gillen, would go a long way to erasing fan and alumni frustration over the past 2-3 seasons and the “keystone kop” coaching search.  It would also, in my opinion, be exactly what the struggling program needs to regain momentum and national credibility.

The “new” short list at Providence

With the Friars still smarting from the rejection by alumnus Jim Larranaga, AD Bob Driscoll is in San Antonio for the Final Four, ostensibly interviewing potential candidates for the now 3-week vacant Friars Head Coach job.  Davidson’s Bob McKillop already informed several schools that he wants to stay to coach All-American Stefan Curry, as well as his son, with the Wildcats next year.  That leaves: Read it all..

Larranaga says no!

Author: Cruiser - Categories: NCAA Basketball, Sports/General

George Mason Head Coach Jim Larranaga will NOT accept the same position at his alma mater, Providence College.

I don’t so much mind that he isn’t the coach, I hate that he turned us down.

It’s looking like Larranaga!

He isn’t my first choice (Travis Ford-UMass), but he is a very good choice nonetheless.

It is starting to look more and more like former Wall-of-Fame Providence Guard Jimmy Larranaga may be coming home to coach the Friars.

Who Shall It Be?

Bob Driscoll, the Athletic Director at Providence, must be ringing his hands with glee as he watches this year’s NCAA Tournament.  Nearly all of his prospective candidates to take over for Tim Welsh as Head Coach have lost their games, save one.  Time to speculate, so here’s the list I have been promising for 2 weeks (with stats and excerpts from Scout.com): Read it all..

CBS showing free March Madness games online

Author: Scott Smith - Categories: NCAA Basketball

Finally!  CBS has decided to stream all games for free on their website!  And it’s not a tiny box - it’s a nice 16:9-ish layout that’s probably 500 pixels wide.  You have to “wait in line” if you aren’t a CBS VIP member, but that took me all of ~15 minutes to get in.  Very cool.
