Oh dear God no.

NFL Assistant to Catholic College Head Coach Series: Jagodzinski 2 - Weis 0

Starry-eyed SIMP PREDICTION: Notre Dame 31, Boston College 13

REALITY: Boston College 17, Notre Dame 0

Chicago NBC Affiliate: “God Likes Boston College More”

BC vs ND 2008

Boston College joins Michigan and Southern California in the ranks of schools that have shut out Notre Dame under Coach Charlie Weis.

This evens up the all-time series between the only two universities of Roman persuasion playing FBS football (or as the Domers see it, between the only Catholic school playing FBS football and the only Jesuit school playing FBS football) with BC winning the last six. And the Frank Leahy Memorial Bowl stays in the Chestnut Hill trophy case where it has been since 2001.

Just for the record, the officials were from the Big East.

Manny to the Nats?

Fox’s Ken Rosenthal says that the Nats want to make a big splash this winter, possibly in the form of Let Manny be Manny.

Comedy, baby.

Obama Backs College Football Playoff!

Enough of a reason to VOTE OBAMA-BIDEN, in my opinion!  :-)

Obama on ESPN’s Monday Night Football with Chris Berman

It’s at about 1:25 into the interview.  But the whole five minutes is worth watching.  Also good to know that Barack is an NFL fan - even if he’s a BEARS fan (yuk).

Buh-bye Chad Cordero.

And now … Quidditch

My old alma mater hosted the Quidditch World Cup last weekend. Seriously.

ZimSpotting

Wanna find a good place to have a few drinks, a watering-hole to watch some sports, or a good restaurant in DC - and perhaps even catch a glimpse of National’s FoF* Ryan Zimmerman?  Well, as Zimmy himself sez: head here! [--chuckle--]

*Face of the Franchise

Woah: One of the NCAA’s all-time great coaches to hang it up?

Where’s Greenberg to report on Lute Olson’s apparent retirement when you need him??  I hope when Coach K goes at Duke, it’s not this sudden and shocking.  U of A’s program is an absolute MESS right now.  This can’t help….

Red Sox likely to be busy this offseason

Theo Epstein

According the Globe’s Tom Masseroti, don’t expect the Red Sox to sit idly by this offseason.  As the author points out, the other upside to Manny’s departure from Boston is that the Sox now are flush with cash to spend in the free agent market:

For now, know this: According to a team source, the Red Sox already have had some internal discussion about free-agent-to-be Mark Teixeira, the most desirable hitter available on the open market and a player for which the bidding will be fierce. Coupled with the strength of Boston’s player development system, the real benefit of Ramirez departure is that the Red Sox will have a truckload of money to spend this winter. All signs point to a spirited run at Teixeira, a switch-hitting, slugging first baseman with the good defensive skills, exceptional baseball acumen, and the kind of discretionary plate discipline that Sox officials so covet.

As Maz points out, acquiring Teixeira would create a logjam with Youkillis, Lowell, and Ortiz of four players for three places.  But Lowell is getting up in age, and according to the article, some in the Boston organization wonder if David Ortiz will ever be close to the fearsome hitter he was over the past 3-4 years.  Could he be in line for a Travis Hafner-esque fall off? Nats Doctor Quits?!?!?

Man, doctor to the Washington Nationals most be one of the most lucrative jobs in professional sports.  Yet, team Dr. Ben Shaffer has resigned.  So, is this a real resignation because he doesn’t want to deal with the Nats, is he too busy too take the work, or was he fired?  I’m guessing its that the Nats are too difficult to work with….
